BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 25, 2020– The House of Representatives will be meeting on Friday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m., and at that meeting a series of motions will be introduced and discussed. These motions include:

(i) Caribbean Development Bank – COVID-19 Emergency Response Support (US$1,000,000) Loan motion 2020. This loan agreement between the GOB and CDB will seek to assist the government of Belize in its efforts to bolster economic and social recovery from the effects of COVID-19.

(ii) Caribbean Development Bank – Enhancing Sugarcane Farmers’ Resilience to Natural Hazard Events (US$1,013,000) Loan Motion 2020. This loan agreement will seek to improve the livelihood of sugarcane farmers in northern Belize, which in turn will uplift the communities of Orange Walk and Corozal.

(iii) Inter-American Development Bank – Support to Safety Nets for Vulnerable Populations Affected by Coronavirus in Belize. This loan contract will seek to assist the Government of Belize in its continued efforts to offset the loss of income and protect the levels of consumption of the vulnerable population in Belize, due to COVID-19.

(iv) International Fund for Agricultural Development – Resilient Rural Belize (Be-Resilient) Project (US$1,914,800) Loan Motion 2020. This loan from the Inter-American Development Bank will seek to significantly assist the GOB to minimize the impacts of climatic and economic events on smallholder farmers while supporting sustainable market access for their produce.

Reliable sources also indicate that the official date when the State of Emergency will come to an end in the country will likely be announced during tomorrow’s proceedings.
