The Belize Hurricanes added to their winning streak in the Belize Elite Basketball League on Thursday night, April 11, by defeating the Cayo Western Ballaz at the Belize City Civic Center.
The Hurricanes gained an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back—ending the first half with a 19-pt lead, 55 – 36, and at the end of regulation, they won by 25 pts, 90 – 75.
Glency Lopez led his team to victory with 15 pts and 8 assists, Victor Evans netted 12 pts, and Amar Ross and Sidibe Bourama each contributed 10 pts. Meanwhile, Mark Gordon for Cayo led his team with 16 pts, and JD Weatherspoon with 15 pts.
Griga beats Defenders in OT
The Griga Dream Ballers successfully defended their home court on Saturday night, April 13, at the Russell Chiste Garcia Auditorium, where they defeated the Belize City Defenders in overtime, 94-91.
Jonathan Guzman had a game-high 35 pts and 8 rebounds to secure the victory, followed by Deshawn Brackett with 17 pts, and Kevon Laurie and Delvon Henderson, who contributed 16 pts apiece.
Meanwhile, the Defenders were led by Nigel Jones with 27 pts and 16 rebounds, along with D’von Campbell, who scored 27 pts.
Tiger Sharks stayed dominant, beating Trojans
The final game of the weekend saw the Belmopan Trojans falling to the San Pedro Tiger Sharks in a 31-pt (81 – 50) blowout fashion on Sunday evening, April 14, at the Belize City Civic Center.
The top performers for the Tiger Sharks were Jihad Wright with 20 pts, Richard Laku with 17 pts and 9 rebounds, and Bobby Arthur-Williams with 17 pts.
For the Trojans, Jevaughn McKenzie netted 14 pts, and Tramarcus Levi scored 12 pts.
