The Benny’s Belize Hurricanes demolished the Belize City Defenders by a whopping 47 points in their marquee match-up of the Belize Elite Basketball League (BEBL) at the Civic Center on Friday, March 8. Both teams came into the most hyped contest of the season with an undefeated 4 – 0 record. However, the Hurricanes managed to come out on top with a score of 119 – 72.

The reigning MVP, Victor Evans led the Hurricanes with 16 pts and 7 rebs, along with the African giant Sidibe Bourama with a double-double of 16 pts and 15 rebs. Nigel Jones of Defenders tallied 19 pts and 3 rebs, and got assistance from rookie sensation, Shane Pratt with 12 pts.

Tiger Sharks toppled Trojans

The Belmopan Trojans hosted the San Pedro Tiger Sharks at the nation’s capital on Saturday, March 9, where the Tiger Sharks managed to get an edge over the Trojans, winning the game, 88 – 71.

Daniel Conorquie of Tiger Sharks netted 21 pts and 6 rebs, and Francis Arana got 14 pts and 5 rebs. Belmopan’s local star Jayden Lopez finished with 23 points and 7 rebs, and Trojans’ newest addition, Tramarcus Levi scored 19 pts.

Cayo wins protest game against the Rebels

Major drama surfaced in the league after Orange Walk Running Rebels decided to play a Saturday night contest against the Cayo Western Ballaz at home with Jeremiah Toney, who had been suspended for a year by the league. Despite winning the match-up on the court, the Rebels ended up losing the game after Western Ballaz protested the game and won their protest. Subsequent to losing the protest the Rebels pulled out of the tournament.
