GeneralImmigration officers busted with weed

CARMELITA, Orange Walk District, Thurs. Aug. 6, 2020– Three Immigration officers attached to the Belmopan Immigration office have been charged jointly with drug trafficking after 7 pounds of marijuana was found in the Immigration Department vehicle in which they were traveling from Orange Walk to Belize City yesterday.

The officers have been detained pending arraignment in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court.

Police said that while police officers were manning a vehicle checkpoint on the Philip Goldson Highway in Carmelita, they stopped a vehicle with Government license plates, in which three Immigration officers were travelling towards Belize City, from Orange Walk.

A routine search was carried out, and the officers found cannabis inside the vehicle. The three officers were taken along with the marijuana to the police station, where they were booked and the drug was deposited as an exhibit.
