Intimacy put on hold, but plenty elbow room will free us

FeaturesIntimacy put on hold, but plenty elbow room will free us

Few countries on the planet could have had a better opportunity to contain COVID-19 than Belize if our leaders had paid attention to the people over the years, instead of being so greedy and narrow. I hate to say bad things about our political leaders and their cronies at this time, but we can’t run from the fact that we should have been in a better position than we are right now to contain this thing. Still, in respect to containing the disease, we are not in the worst position, thanks to our physical attributes.

All our best efforts could not prevent the tragic loss of intimacy, though. In the past several decades that blessing has been having a rough ride, and this COVID-19 looks like it would want to end the warmth in the world for good. Bah, this new coronavirus is making things very chilly.

Wait, pause, this report…did the incomparable Vicente Fernandez really set off to the eternal unknown over the weekend? Ah, I just went to Google, and the Los Angeles Times says, hurray, not so…con dinero o sin dinero…sigo siendo el rey!

A small population does not allow for many opportunities to get rich off home cooking. Some of our top artists would have made a mint if they had lived in these countries with millions and millions of people. In Belize, well, there are just not that many of us to make a contribution. Ah, some people have been making bucks that allow them to splash around the ritzy places in the world, but that’s only because they hijacked the system.

There’s a special blessing in being sparsely populated. Our population density in some urban areas is a minor worry compared with the big cities of the world. The population density in Manhattan in New York is 67,000 per square mile, and most areas of Wuhan City, where COVID-19 blew up, are well over 100,000 persons per square mile. Belize City looks like a park on Sunday morning with its 4,650 or so persons per square mile.

All this space makes it not too hard for us to keep our 6 or 10 feet apart if our government doesn’t make laws that force us to congregate in small spaces.

There are some facts that are emerging about this COVID-19. The truth about this pandemic is that it could have been contained if the medical world knew three months ago what it knows now. At least from February the experts knew that asymptomatic persons were also spreading the disease.

A joint report on the disease from the medical teams from the WHO and China that was done between February 16-24, 2020, said: “Asymptomatic infection has been reported, but the majority of the relatively rare cases who are asymptomatic on the date of identification/report went on to develop disease. The proportion of truly asymptomatic infections is unclear but appears to be relatively rare and does not appear to be a major driver of transmission.”

While the disease was raging in China and Italy, people on this side of the world were eating, drinking, and being intimate. All through February and going into March, the disease was spreading, and people didn’t know.

There are stories from the USA that explain how large groups over there got the virus.

A choir met and what, about half of them got the disease. Choirs throw their voices in a small space, that’s what they are about, and there were people who were carrying the disease. Pagans don’t know about the intimacy in the church. There’s not only a lot of abrazos and handshakes, but on special occasions there is also the passing around of the cup.

A group of old executive business bohgaz, hell bent on preventing any eavesdroppers from snatching their ideas, huddled in a small air-conditioned room. At least one of them had the disease. Air conditioners are vehicles for air-borne diseases. There are studies which show that they don’t spread the influenzas, but I never bought into that. The COVID-19 is a different story, because it is not only as contagious as the influenzas, it is also persistent.

People who smoke cigarettes and the sacred weed like to share their smoke for camaraderie and for peace. If there is one brother with the flu, or hepatitis, or COVID-19 in the group, soon there are a few sick people.

Everything points to intimacy being the vehicle that is spreading the disease. The numbers say that if you get it, it will most likely be from a friend or family member or close work colleague. Health personnel in other countries have been infected with the disease because their countries lost control and the hospitals were overwhelmed with patients.

The information we have now makes for a clear path to keep COVID-19 at bay. The numbers say that if we practice good hygiene, and we wear masks when in public, and we work in healthy air, which we have plenty of because of our elbow room, we have to be unlucky to catch it. There is also a report that we might have some immunity to COVID-19 from the BCG vaccine, which is given to all of us at birth.

There are people who don’t hate catching the flu the way most of us do, but everyone has a lot of respect for COVID-19. The reports are that it is worse than any flu, and there’s talk that it could also cause permanent damage to some of our organs. This is definitely a disease we don’t want to catch. The encouraging news is that we can escape the ravages of COVID-19 if we don’t heng slek.

No illicit intimacy is death to thinking about it

I read this story on Reuters about young ladies in Mexico who don’t go to bed early at night, and I think you’d have to be a cold heart to not bleed when you hear what COVID-19 has done to them. My, all that prime young flesh having to move out of the hotels and find a place to sleep on the streets, and there is no saving them. Wow, their commodity is second only to food; people desperately want their wares, but because of the disease everybody frayd.

Look, before anybody calls me a philistine, I blanket, 100%, think coercing or seducing young women into night work is not only despicable, it is a crime, and in regard to cases where young women enter the profession because the system doesn’t have a space for them to earn a living, that is really, really sad…a shame on the system…the system must do better.

However, there are some women who don’t give a daam…a young movie tart said she couldn’t see the fuss over a “hole”, and a Jamaican woman who has no respect for the law said she didn’t mind her young daughter getting in on the action because a little of that never harmed nobody.

Sorry, I won’t preach change to those who think they are blessed for after hours. I regret what has happened, to their business, and if it is any consolation to them, they are not alone in their grief. Bah, the depression in the night world is absolutely a drag on the essential imagination.

It seems like there is no end to these anti-intimacy diseases. HIV was/is a disaster. H1N1 hurt, but mercifully it didn’t take the air out of the balloon for too long…this new coronavirus looks like it’s come to wipe illicit intimacy off the books, something the threats of hell couldn’t do. Aha, a lot of preachers raise Cain against illicit intimacy, but stories abound that their ranks are filled with pushovers.

Whoa there, fetter your little mind, one doesn’t have to be in the skirmish to think about it. Ouch, bad, terrible things like speeded-up aging happen to us when our thoughts stop roaming. Thinking about it we must. What is man without a free imagination? He is a dead piece of clay that it was best God had left to lie there. It is written somewhere that man cannot live by bread alone, he must also think about it. Yap.
