BELIZE CITY, Mon. Sept. 4, 2023

Belize’s national female volleyball star Khaya Gordon, 18, and her junior college Navarro College volleyball team, the Navarro Bulldogs, are still unbeaten this school year after a weekend four-match sweep in the two-day Blinn Classic at the Kruse Center, Brenham High School’s auditorium in Brenham, Texas.

On Friday, the Bulldogs blanked North Central Texas 3-0 at 9:00 a.m., and then defeated Temple College at 1:00 p.m. by the same score.

On Saturday, they handed previously unbeaten, 11th-ranked Weatherford their first loss (25-21, 26-24, 25-22), which included an epic second-set comeback after being down 19-24. They finished their weekend schedule by also blanking Hill College 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 26-24) in the afternoon with yet another 24-20 comeback in the final set.

Their schedule now has 14 Region XIV conference matches, and 6 non-conference matches remaining, beginning on Tuesday, September 5th against Panola College at home, and then at Tyler Junior College on Thursday, September 7th, both conference foes.

They finish the week’s schedule with non-conference clashes on Friday, September 8, with Hutchinson Community College and Weatherford College, and Western Texas College and Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday, September 9.

It is widely anticipated that Navarro Bulldogs will be in the top 3 in the national rankings when those are released tomorrow after today’s Labor Day holiday in the United States.
