BELIZE CITY, Tues. Aug. 2, 2022

On Friday, July 29, at 7:00 p.m. at the MCC Grounds, the Westline Over-40 2022 football tournament concluded with a 2 to 2 tie in the final game of the season, the second of a two-game championship series. Kulture Yabra is once again champion, defeating Medina’s Jewelry Pickstock Lake 5 to 3 in a two-game series.

The final game was a classic. Kulture took a 1-nil lead 20 minutes into the game on a goal from Jerome “Jarro” James (The referee officially recorded it as an own goal by Lake defense, under pressure from Jarro). Medina’s Lake quickly responded with a goal from Bruce Dwayne Carrillo. The first half ended 1 to 1.

25 minutes into the second half, John Castro scored to give Lake a 2 to 1 lead. With 10 minutes to go, David “Manu” McCaulay scored a magnificent goal to tie the game and secure the championship for Kulture Yabra. Kulture Yabra is the reigning national back-to-back Over-40 champion. Now they are the Belize City Over-40 undefeated 2022 champion.
