BELIZE CITY–The 15th Annual Lionman Triathlon takes place this Sunday, August 31, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the Sand Lighters Promenade on New Town Barracks, and all are invited, free of charge, to see the brave athletes take that early morning plunge into the cold water to start their swim leg of the triathlon.

Participating athletes will compete in the following categories – Juniors (18 and under); Females; Males (elite); Masters (40 and over); and Mixed Relay teams.

Each participant will attempt to complete the Olympic Distance event – 1,500 meter swim, 40k ride, and 10k run.

Reigning champions from 2013 are: Male – Kent Gabourel, Jr.; Female – Shalini Zabaneh; Junior – Brandon Santos; Masters – Dr. Ramon Figueroa; and Relay Teams – Sagitun (Shalini Zabaneh, Brandon Cattouse, and Rondre Lewis).

The Top 10 individual finishers overall in 2013 were: 1st Kent Gabourel, Jr.; 2nd Kenroy “Smokes” Gladden; 3rd Dr. Ramon Figueroa; 4th Luigi Urbina; 5th Karl Borland; 6th Shalini Zabaneh; 7th Dimity Gannon; 8th Roger Troyer; 9th Anthony Leslie; and 10th Jordan Santos.
