SportsLords Bank Sunrise - 2014 Rural Senior Female Softball Champions

BELIZE CITY—The Belize Rural Senior Female Softball playoff and championship games were all played on Saturday and Sunday in Lords Bank, where the hosts Lords Bank Sunrise prevailed in the championship series over Burrell Boom Orchid Girls, who settled for second place.

Three games each were played on Saturday and Sunday in Lords Bank.

In game 1 on Saturday, Lords Bank Sunrise defeated Willows Bank United, 11-8, behind winning pitcher Stacy Smith, with the loss going to Jacqueline Cassasola. In the scheduled game 2, Burrell Boom Orchid Girls won by default over Sandhill Messengers (7-0). And in game 3, Lords Bank Sunrise was again victorious, this time over Willows Bank United by a 12-7 score. Winning pitcher was Margaret Hendy, and the loser Angie Tucker.

The playoffs resumed on Sunday with Burrell Boom Orchid Girls trouncing Sandhill Messengers, 12-1, behind winning pitcher Therese Baptist. Losing pitcher was Ashanti Anderson.

With neither Lords Bank Sunrise nor Burrell Boom Orchid Girls having lost a game up to that point in the double-elimination playoff format, these two teams then went head to head in the championship round; and it was Lords Bank Sunrise registering back-to-back victories, to claim the Belize Rural Senior Female Softball Championship 2014. However, both games were very competitive, being each decided by a 3-run margin. In the first encounter, Lords Bank got the 9-6 win over the Orchid Girls, with Stacy Smith picking up the win, while Therese Baptist suffered the loss. And in their next meeting, it was again Lords Bank Sunrise coming away with a 10-7 victory and the championship, behind winning pitcher Margaret Hendy, while the loss went to Therese Baptist.

Champions Lords Bank Sunrise and sub-champs Burrell Boom Orchid Girls will both represent Belize Rural at the 24th Women National Softball Championship.
