Loren Augustus, 31, shot in the forehead – critical at Universal

GeneralLoren Augustus, 31, shot in the forehead - critical at Universal

On Tuesday, he underwent four hours of surgery, and today Loren is still unable to breathe on his own.

Amandala visited the Universal Health Services, where relatives were at Loren?s bedside, hoping for the best but fearing the worst. His condition is very critical. To his relatives, the man they see lying in the hospital bed seems nothing like their loved one. His entire face is swollen from the shot to his forehead. His present condition is not how they want to remember him, and they prayed next to him.

Police say that they have one suspect detained in connection with the shooting, but the motive, they say, is unclear at this time.

According to a police report of Wednesday May 18, police responded to a shooting incident in the Kings Park area, and they saw a male person lying on the ground with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head.

Police investigations into the incident have revealed that Loren Augustus was riding his bicycle along St. Matthew Street and when he reached the intersection with St. Charles Street, he was approached by a male person who pulled out a firearm and shot him in the forehead.

A brown Tropic Air hat was the only evidence left at the scene of the incident, said police.

The almost execution-style shooting of the young father has relatives in shock and disbelief. They say he was quiet and kept to himself.

Relatives do not believe that the motive was robbery, because nothing was taken from him. His bicycle, watch and jewelry were not stolen.

Amandala spoke with Augustus? sister, Dawna Augustus, and she told us that her brother had no misunderstanding or ?beef? with anyone in the streets. He is no troublemaker, she said, and he does not ?hang out.? His daily routine was that when he left work, he headed home to his two children, as he is a single parent. Loren is the father of two sons, ages, 8 and 4, from a previous relationship.

Dawna said that she knows her brother was going through some changes with his ex-girlfriend because of a custody battle for their two children. They had been separated for over three years, and this was the only thing that she knew about, she said.

The deceased was a maintenance engineer at Tropic Air, a job he has been doing for ten years. He began working with the department at the age of 21. He lived at #34 Lacroix and Brown Streets in the St. Martin de Porres area.
