GeneralMan detained for death of Geoffrey Crawford, 69

Biscayne Village, Belize District, Fri. Oct. 1, 2021– On Friday, Police have arrested and charged one suspect — 41-year-old Maurice Usher, a construction worker — in connection with Geoffery Crawford’s abduction and murder. The Police Department is seeking one more person believed to have abetted in the crime. On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, a missing person’s report was filed for Geoffrey Crawford, 69, whose neighbor had seen an unconscious, apparently injured Crawford in the back of his red Nissan Pathfinder when men who were driving the vehicle requested assistance to jumpstart it. Crawford was a retired employee of the Belize Port Authority who resided in Crooked Tree Village. He had last been seen at his home in Crooked Tree before his apparent abduction. Blood would later be found in that home.

A search had ensued for the missing elder, but at about 9:00 on Friday morning, Crawford’s vehicle was found in Biscayne village near Mile 29 of the Philip Goldson Highway, about 2 miles down a dirt feeder road. During a further search of the area, a mound of recently disturbed soil was found within a 50-foot radius of the location at which the vehicle was discovered. That spot turned out to be a shallow grave, in which the lifeless, injured body of Geoffrey Crawford was found.

Crawford’s body was retrieved and transported to the morgue so that a post-mortem exam could be conducted to ascertain the cause of his death. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police are hoping to detain more persons in connection to this crime since they believe that Usher did not act alone.

Police are following several angles since the area is typically peaceful according to Police. He shared that investigators are closer to pinpointing a motive.
