Amandala reported in the Wednesday, August 10, 2011 issue on the highway accident between Marvin “Big Spanish” Deras, 37, and Lyndon Guiseppe, 47, between Mile 6 and 7 on the Northern Highway on Sunday, August 7, at 2:55 a.m.
In that report, we mentioned that Deras, who is a KREM Radio DJ, was driving a 2010 Toyota Forerunner; he was heading in the direction of Ladyville.
Guiseppe, who is the CEO of BCB Holdings Limited and Chairman of Belize Bank, was driving a 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser, heading towards Belize City.
The men had a head-on collision, and each suffered injuries, according to police. At the time, police said that Deras had suffered abrasions to the head and a broken right foot. He sought medical attention at the Belize Medical Associates.
Police say that Guiseppe suffered abrasions to the right hand, and he complained of pain in the hip.
Today, however, we learned that Deras died this morning, which obviously means that his injuries were more severe than the police had initially reported.
The Deras family is now grieving his loss, and they have asked to be able to comment to the media at a later time.
