After both sweeping their home-and-away semifinals, Cayo U13 with 3-0 and 5-2 victories over Corozal U13, and Mid-South with 2-0 and 2-1 wins over Belmopan U13, the Football Federation of Belize (FFB)National U13 Girls Elite Championship was decided in a single match at the FFB Stadium on Saturday, December 10, where Mid-South U13 prevailed, 1-0, over Cayo U13.
In the preceding 3rd Place match starting at 9:30 a.m., it was 1-1 in regulation between Belmopan and Corozal, with Belmopan emerging 3-2 winners in the penalty shootout to claim 3rd Place. Angelica Lopez (1’) had put Belmopan ahead very early, but Danna Hall (22’) equalized for Corozal. Belmopan’s 3 penalty conversions were by Angelica Lopez, Eliana Barrera and Alexia Tillett; while the 2 for Corozal were by Aylin Zetina and Daasia Avilez.
The championship match which followed was also a low scoring affair between Cayo and Mid-South. After a scoreless first half, the only goal of the match came from Deborah Gordon (51’) to give Mid-South a 1-nil victory and the National U13 Girls Elite Championship 2022.
FFB president Sergio Chuc and other FFB executive members were on hand to congratulate the U13 Girls Elite Champions – Mid-South, Sub-Champions – Cayo, and all other Elite teams for participating in the first ever U13 Girls Elite Championship.
Individual awards were as follows: Best Goalkeeper – Marika Charlie (Mid-South U13); MVP – Deborah Gordon (Mid-South U13); Best Forward – Unique Green (Mid-South U13); Best Defense – Marcelie Mar (Cayo U13); Most Goals – Aneeke Meza (Cayo U13); and Best Midfielder – Jahxann Waight (Cayo U13).
