US/Mexican Border, Mon. Mar. 29, 2021– This week a video surfaced on social media of a 12-year-old migrant girl on a trek to the US in a group of five, all children. Shockingly the girl said that she is a Belizean citizen and has left her home in Belize. According to her, her father, an American citizen, is somewhere in Houston, Texas.
In the video, an interviewer can be heard remarking to the child, “You speak English very well,” to which the child replied, “Yes, Sir.” The interviewer then asked the child where she was from, and she responded, “I am (from) Belize.”
“But have you been in the United States before?” the interviewer then asked. The child replied, “No. I’m Belizean. I actually learn English from Belize.”
She then told the interviewer that she and the other children in her group were all alone and met each other on the journey and started to talk. They were on their way to turn themselves in to the US Border Patrol authorities.
