Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this morning, but fortunately he sustained no injuries.
The accident occurred in Georgeville, Cayo District, almost in front of Bulridge Limited.
According to reports, a mini cargo truck was third in a line of vehicles, heading toward Belmopan, when the driver decided to overtake the vehicles in front of him. However, when the truck had almost completely overtaken the second vehicle, which was being driven by Minister Habet, Hon. Habet swerved into the left lane and collided with the mini truck.
While Habet’s SUV completely flipped onto the highway’s guardrail, the front portion of the mini truck, including its windshield, was damaged. Luckily, no one received any serious injuries.
“I didn’t receive any injuries. I just saw the Minister got out of his vehicle and got into another vehicle and went,” the anonymous driver said. “I’m blessed because every time, as I head out, I always hand myself to God and say ‘protect me on my journey.’”
Upon giving his statement to the police, the driver revealed that the Minister had claimed responsibility for causing the accident.
