At the same time, the Well-Rig?s maintenance crew were immediately instructed to service existing hand pumps along the ribbon communities, including schools hand-pumps to alleviate the situation.

Even though it is the responsibility of Village Water Boards to maintain their Water Systems, the Ministry along with the recommendation made by the Area Representative Hon. Michael Espat, decided to assist this Water Board by ordering for a submersible pump, the cost of which will be shared by the Ministry and the Water Board as agreed.

At a meeting with the villagers on October 9, Chairman Charles Ramclam explained the situation. In view that there were no pumps on the type specified on hand with the local suppliers, the pump had to be ordered from the United States and should arrive within a few weeks.

Contrary to allegations made by certain individuals, the Area Representative and the Ministry were prompt in addressing the issue. It should also be noted that if this Water Board had endeavoured to have a spare water pump (like most water boards) there would not be any delay in restoring this vital liquid to the people.
