National Amateur Women’s League Week 9 update

SportsNational Amateur Women’s League Week 9 update

BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 17, 2023

The Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) completed its 9th week of competition games this past weekend in its 2023 Opening Season.

There are currently five (5) teams each in Group A and Group B of the League, with a relegation plan for the Group B winner advancing to Group A, and likewise the last place team in Group A possibly being relegated to Group B. Because of the uneven number of teams in each group, one team in each group has to “rest” each week, with 4 of the 5 teams seeing action.

Below are the Week 9 games results and standings in Group A and Group B.

Both Group A games were played on Saturday, May 13. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium at 4:00 p.m., (A) Jewel Fury crushed Rumberas, 6-1, with goals from Khalydia Velasquez (5’), Suswani Martinez (7’, 54’ & 76’), Jennisha Scott (44’) and Cenei Apolonio (60’); the lone goal for Rumberas was by Twila Chaneb (10’). Then at 6:00 p.m. at the Norman Broaster Stadium, it was a 2-2 draw between Verdes Rebels and Jaguar Women. Two early strikes by Elva Nunez (13’ & 16’) gave Jaguar Women the 2-nil lead, but Nyeisha Obando (38’ & 89’) got a goal in each half to secure the draw for her Verdes Rebels.

The first Group B match was at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at the M.A. Stadium in Independence, where home-standing Midsouth Elite shut out Jaguar Girls, 2-0, with a goal each from Unique Green (49’) and Dinna Cruz (65’). Then on Sunday, May 14, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, it was a 2-2 draw between home team Napoles FC and visiting Cayo Dreamers. Jerlin Salazar (45+3’) and Eva Salmeron (78’) shook the net for Napoles, while Jullie Ponce (45’) and Daysi Paiz (52’) scored for Cayo Dreamers.
