BELIZE CITY, Mon. Nov. 8, 2021 — The National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) kicked off its 2021 Opening Season over the weekend with five games played, two in the (5-team) North Zone (N) and three in the (6-team) South Zone (S). Two games were played on Saturday and three on Sunday, all starting at 3:00 p.m. at their respective venues.

On Saturday at the Norman Broaster Stadium, it was (N) home standing Verdes Rebel Girls shutting out San Pedro Pirates Females, 6-nil, with goals from Diana Pacheco (3’), Shanae Harris (36’), Cynthia Montalvan (45’ & 58’), Kimberly Perez (56’) and Shanay Nasario (?). Meanwhile, at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda, (S) Hyper Phoenix played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Kulcha United from Dangriga. Kulcha United’s Shayama Caliz converted a penalty for the first half lead (28’ PK), but Karel Avila equalized for Hyper Phoenix before intermission (43’), and it stayed that way till the end.

On Sunday at the Norman Broaster Stadium, it was the visitors (N) Corozal United Warriors coming away with the 4-1 victory over Cayo Dreamers. Netting all 4 goals for the Warriors was Alisha Terry (35’, 44’, 74’ & 79’), while the Dreamers’ sole tally was by Allyisha Bowman (77’). Meanwhile, in a home turf battle at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, (S) Rumberas FC prevailed, 2-nil, over Sagitun Girlz. After a scoreless first half, Kelsey Polanco (57’ PK) put Rumberas in front, and a Sagitun own goal (Arleni Foreman 77’ OG) sealed the 2-0 victory for Rumberas. And in a very one-sided “jewel” clash at the FFB Stadium, reigning champions (S) Jewel Fury easily disposed of Hyper Jewels, 9-0, with goals from Jesselle Conorque (9’, 45’ & 88’), Jayda Brown (15’ & 36’) and Gisell Baeza (24’, 30’, 41’ & 43’).
