A hundred and seventeen people, or more, are vying for the UDP City Council ticket… in Belize City alone. In the districts they are lining up in the hundreds and the thousands for the Reds; and for the VIP and the other parties, everybody an ih graama di line up tu. But absolutely nobody wants to be seen running around with no dratted PUP. Dehn da love, but nobody noh love them. Boo.
Hold, stalwart brother Glenn and faithful brother G. Mike are staying close to the flotsam. Congratulations for gratitude. Some just couldn’t stay on board when the lee fresh breeze blow hard and chase the Master PUPees from out of the vault. Andrew Steinhauer couldn’t stand the smell, so he jumped ship and headed to Caye Caulker to cool his head. Alberto Vellos, Ras Head, and Cadogan handed in their boots too. Has anybody seen the PUP’s best journalist, Norris Hall? It’s like hihn cut a trail tu, and disappear.
And what about civilian Godfrey Smith? Pickstock vote fu man who, instead a work, spend ih whole five years di taak…blaa, blaa, blaa…like UDP. Talk tough now if you da bad man, Mr. Smith.
Oh how the mighty PUP have fallen. Nobody wants them. Tiddeh day Ramsey mule birthday more important than the PUP 58th!

Like most Belizeans, I was in awe listening to the brilliant speeches over the radio, and reading the insightful pieces in the newspapers about the glorious Tenth Day of September. I thought the case was closed, that if anyone was still confused by Shoman’s myths in his baker’s Chapters that surely dehn geh di sense.
Wow, like cold Joe Naat, Mr. Uh Luna try blow rain on our parade. So, through his tunnel telescope he saw a “real” Bayman in the Corozal parade, eh? Braa, if you are looking for slave master phenotypes, they are here by the thousands. Put a beard on Mr. Bill Lindo and you’ve got one. Put a beard on H. Melvin Hulse, and you’ve got one.
Mr. Uh Luna, you can sweat poor Americans so they change street where they walk their dogs, but you can never dampen the spirit of 1798! Hip, hip, hooray, we noh gwain noa way!

Dr. Bertie C. might seem to be a dictator, the way he manipulates (in straight talk, rip off) football elections, but he still has to wiggle his cronies at the FFB to buy into his unpatriotic schemes. Did you know that there were members of the FFB executive that justified Belize playing our World Cup “home” match in Guatemala with the argument that softball and basketball have played home games in Guatemala too? In softball the team that bats last is called the home team, and in basketball the scoreboard has a side for “guest” and a side for home. Braa, in those instances home is just a formality. My, it is tragic that there are people who di run things in sports in this country who know next to nada of what sports are about.
I applaud the owner of Verdes Football Club for spending his money and time on the youths. But he doesn’t know where sports’ glory comes from. Football is not food, clothing, or shelter. Without the symbolism, football is just a bag of air. Pray, what’s the sense of footballers placing their hands over their hearts and bowing their heads during the playing of their nation’s national anthem if they are chasing a bag of air?
Football is what we make it. The FFB has made Belize football a cheap thing. The footballers who stayed home defended our nation’s honor, and the integrity of the game.
Quality time for kids
There are many who say that the Family Court is weighted in favor of mothers. Maybe that is true. Maybe it should be so. Fathers have a responsibility to provide for their offspring. How much money fathers should contribute toward the maintenance of their children might need more discussion.
But, this piece is not about financial contributions. This piece is about quality time. Bully for parents who fight for quality time with their children. And woe to fathers who spend no quality time with their children.
In the initial stages of a fallout of parents, things might be acrimonious, too hot for reason. But a parent cannot be allowed to abandon their child forever.
There are extenuating circumstances. There is separation by country, for example.
There are times when a child lucks out and ends up with a parent that is better for them than their biological one. I’ll save the speech about that too.
The Family Court must be concerned about children and the quality time they get from their parents. The Court must look into each situation individually, and prescribe “time” for parents who have abandoned their own.
Some might say: “don’t force anyone to be with their child,” that if a parent doesn’t want a child, it is better for the child to be far away from that so and so. I think that when this happens there should be serious counseling for the truant parent. If they can’t get the sense maybe they should be tied to a post and shot. So the child has closure.
Look, I am no expert here. I believe that society owes it to its children to try and make more sense of parenthood than dollars at month’s end. Children need quality time with their parents.
