HighlightsNew Belize Ambassador presents credentials to Guatemalan President

GUATEMALA CITY, Mon. May 31, 2021– H.E. Jose Alpuche, who was selected by the Briceño administration to serve as Belize’s Ambassador to the Republic of Guatemala, presented his letter of credence to the President of Guatemala, H.E. Alejandro Giammattei Falla, in Guatemala City today during a ceremony hosted at the National Palace of Culture.

The position was formerly held by Ambassador Alexis Rosado, who will be relocated to Belgium to serve as the Ambassador-Designate to the European Union, and the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States.

Alpuche formerly served as a Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture and has been part of diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom and Belgium. In his new role as Ambassador of Belize to Guatemala, H.E. Alpuche will spearhead the implementation of foreign and trade policies with Guatemala. President Giammattei, during the ceremony, highlighted the shared vision of the neighbouring countries to expand and deepen all aspects of their relations and said that he looks forward to collaborating on regional and international issues.

Alpuche’s new post is a crucial one, in light of the long-standing territorial feud between the two neighbouring countries, dating as far back as the 1800’s.
