No more plays on the radio

LettersNo more plays on the radio

Dear Editor,
I was attending St. John’s College at Landivar when Scholastic Van Fleet came to our class (third form) and gave us the news from BHBS 1952 (British Honduras Broadcasting Service) that there would be a play competition and that they would give $25 to the winner.

The high school students were allowed to participate. I was selected from SJC (third & fourth form), as I was No.1 from Landivar. I participated. And I was along with Urvin Yorke, the son of Ms. Ethel Wade, with whom I lodged at Pickstock St., AND I WON!

Urvin Yorke came to me and exclaimed, “YOU WON! YOU WON!” I was given $25 by BHBS. I think George McKesey was one of the judges. They do not put over those plays again over Radio Belize!

Alejandro Vernon, JP (former mayor & area rep)
