BELIZE CITY, Mon. Oct. 25, 2021 –On Saturday, October 23, police arrived on the scene of an accident on the Placencia Road in Stann Creek and found one person lying motionless on the roadside.

The victim has been identified as Darnell Swazo. He was found a distance from a heavily damaged silver vehicle in which he had been a passenger and from which he had been flung.

According to police, the driver of the car, identified as Carlos Reyes, apparently lost control of the vehicle, which slammed into a drain before overturning.
Reyes survived the accident.

The fatal accident occurred between Miles 4 and 5 on the Placencia Road. The victim was heading to Santa Cruz from Riversdale, according to local reports.

At this time, there is no indication whether alcohol could have been a factor in this accident. No charges have yet been brought against Reyes, and police did not indicate if he was issued a notice of intended prosecution. An investigation continues.
