ORANGE WALK TOWN, Fri. Sept. 11, 2020– An ongoing investigation into the brutal chopping of Tarique Munnings, 27, a laborer of Ladyville, Belize District, who was hacked to death in Carmelita on the night of Tuesday, July 21, led to a man of Carmelita, who has been arrested pending charges of murder. Police are looking for two other men.

Police said that at about 10:00 that Tuesday night in Carmelita, Munnings was riding a bicycle on the Philip Goldson Highway along with two male minors, who were also riding bicycles.

Three men who were armed with machetes and who were walking on the road quickly attacked Munnings, causing him to fall off his bicycle. The men then chopped him in the back, chest, legs, and head.

When Munnings was attacked, the two minors who were with him fled the scene.

After chopping Munnings, the men then escaped, leaving him dead on the ground.

The motive for the brutal murder is not yet known.
