Police are investigating the killing of 27-year-old Byron Herrera, a laborer and a well-known resident of San Francisco Street, Orange Walk Town, whose body was found lying beside a black motorcycle on Saturday night with multiple gunshot wounds.
Initial reports are indicating that sometime before 11:00 p.m. that night, the sound of gunshots could be heard near San Narciso Street, and when police arrived on the scene, they found Herrera on that Street lying near his scooter according the police report.
Unconfirmed reports are that he was shot approximately 20 times, but we understand that information may be inaccurate. Police searched the scene and found several expended shells and bullet fragments.
Herrera’s motionless body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
So far there have been no reported arrests in connection with the incident, However, police are investigating and are scheduled to give an update on the matter later this week. Herrera is the son of well-known drummer, Wilbert Herrera.
