BELIZE CITY, Wed. July 14, 2021– Over 60 riders lined up at Crooked Tree to determine the Road Champ in the 3 Categories of Weekend Warriors this past Sunday. We headed down the Northern Highway, entering the Airport Road then connected to the John Smith Link Road. By this time a break of 19 riders had been established, consisting of all the top guns in Weekend Warriors.
The race for the “C” Category riders, who had all been dropped, ended after this first lap, for 27 miles. Manuel Esquilliano took the victory from Gabriel Gabourel, while Herwald Humes got 3rd.
Meanwhile, Categories “A” & “B” had another lap to do, and the 19 riders kept intact as they exited the Link Road and entered the George Price Highway heading to Hattieville and then the Boom Road. It was on this stretch that the big “A” guns started to attack and established their dominance. By the time they exited the Boom Road for the last lap on the Northern Highway, an additional group of about 7 riders had caught the second group on the road. As we entered the John Smith Link Road for the last time, the configuration up front was about 8 “A” riders, while about 18 riders were in this big second group, which ended catching some of the front runners. This second group also included 6 of the best Category “B” riders.
At the tape, Kenroy “Smokes” Gladden of Kulture took the victory in the “A” Category, while strong man Sherwin Roca took 2nd and Vallan Symns, also of Kulture, rounded out the top 3.
In the “B” Category, “ol bwoy” Santino the Chief took the big “W”, with Ryan Willoughby of M&M and Kenneth Butler of FT Williams rounding out the top 3.
And so, the 3 Weekend Warriors Road Champions for 2021 are Kenroy “Smokes” Gladden, Santino Castillo and Manuel Esquilliano, respectively, in “A”, “B”, & “C.”
Thanks to the officials and all who participated!
