Pedal by Pedal – Report of Chief’s Thursday Race of September 13, 2018

SportsPedal by Pedal - Report of Chief’s Thursday Race of September 13, 2018

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 13, 2018– Twenty-five riders, comprised of 15 Elites and 10 Weekend Warriors (WW), took off at 5:40 a.m. today in what turned out to be a blistering pace, as the wind pushed us towards Hattieville. By the time we cleared Burdon Creek Bridge at Mile 6, some damage had already been done, as many riders had been dropped.  By this time, there was a 2-man breakaway running up front, with the big name Elites chasing them furiously.

As we turned around at Hattieville, the wind was now in our face, and hit us like a ton of bricks.  This caused the peloton to slow down, while the 2 front runners, Byron Pope and Herman “Hijo” Requeña had excellent cohesion, and managed to stay away, taking 1st and 2nd place, respectively.  At the Mile 8, Western Paradise Village, the chasing peloton was then split, as 7 Elites went down the road with only one Weekend Warrior, the Chief, while the remaining 9 Weekend Warriors were left behind with a few Elites.  At the finish, it was Tarique Flowers taking the 3rd and final spot on the Podium, while the Chief secured 1st Place in the Weekend Warriors Category.  A few minutes later, the remaining riders came in, and Wayne Moses was 2nd, and Vallan Symms, both of Kulture, was 3rd, for the 2 remaining Weekend Warrior prizes.

Next week, we do it again.
