Playoff race tight at Week 8 of PLB Opening Season

SportsPlayoff race tight at Week 8 of PLB Opening Season

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 22, 2022

The second round has just started, and already the race to the playoffs is tight in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2022-2023 Opening Season. Two teams are out front, two are lagging behind, while four are bunched up in the middle of what promises to be a turbulent home stretch to the coveted Top-4 playoff spots. (See standings below.)

We are yet to receive official scoring details from the PLB, but the results posted on their website showed the following results this past weekend.

Only one game was played on Saturday night, September 17, and it was at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo, where the visiting Altitude FC put a 4-1 beating on Benque FC.

On Sunday afternoon, at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk, it was a 2-2 stalemate between Progresso FC and Bandits SC from Belmopan. Meanwhile, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, San Pedro Pirates FC came away with a 2-0 win over home-standing Wagiya SC. And at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, defending champion Verdes FC maintained their position at the top of the standings with a 3-1 win over Port Layola FC.

All eyes will be on Altitude vs San Pedro this Saturday night, where the arena will apparently be shared by two serious “gunslingers” – Altitude’s league leading goal scorer Andres Orozco, and San Pedro’s newly acquired Mexican striker who reportedly was recently associated with top Mexican 1st Division club, America.

Upcoming Week 9 schedule:

Saturday, September 24
7:30 p.m. – Altitude FC vs San Pedro Pirates FC – M.A. Stadium in Independence
7:30 p.m. – Bandits SC vs Wagiya SC – Isidoro Beaton Stadium

Sunday, September 25
4:00 p.m. – Port Layola FC vs Benque FC – MCC Grounds
4:00 p.m. – Verdes FC vs Progresso FC – Norman Broaster Stadium
