Plaza United FC, Brown Bombers and the Belize Defence Force Veterans all enjoyed big wins when the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) Over-40 tournament continued in its 3rd week at the Berger Field in Belize City on Sunday evening, November 10.
In Game 1, Brown Bombers outlasted the Caye Caulker Veterans, 2-1, as Vallan Symns’ brace (37’ and 42’) secured the win, after Sanja Pitts, Sr. (40’) had equalized, 1-1, for the island squad.
In Game 2, the BDF Veterans marched over the Survivors, 7-0, led by Evaristo Cal’s hat trick (8’, 18’ and 59’). Other goals came from Victor Nuñez (6’), Fidel Vernon (13’) and Kent Nuñez (45’). Bert Palma (35’) did not help Survivors’ cause when he sent the ball into his own net.
In Game 3, Plaza United upset Kulture Yabra, 3-1, with goals by Michael Hendricks (11’), Ariani Swazo (25’) and Julio Swazo (43’). Only Murray Menzies scored a consolation goal for Yabra, who were down 2 men when star goleador Kevin Rowland was sent off with a red card in the first half, and goalkeeper Elias Hercules was ejected for fouling a player outside the goal area in the 2nd half.
