BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 29, 2024

In Week 3 action in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2023-2024 Closing Season, Latrell Middleton of Port Layola FC scored again to maintain his lead in the PLB goal scoring column. This coming Sunday, Latrell, with 5 goals after scoring in each game so far, including a hat trick in Week 2 against Wagiya SC, will lead his team, Port Layola FC against league leading Verdes FC and their top striker, Matias Veron, who is second in the goal scoring column with 3 goals.

On Saturday night at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk, home team Progresso FC played to a 2-2 draw against defending champion Altitude FC. Progresso goals were by Alwin Zelaya (18’) and Andir Chi (45+4’); while for Altitude it was Ashley Torres (45+4’) and Gabriel Ramos (59’). Meanwhile, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, the visiting Benque United FC maintained their winning streak with a 3-1 victory over Bandits Sports. Benque got 2 early goals from Jhon Valencia (6’ & 7’) and also benefited from a Bandits own goal by Jalen Budna (64’ OG); while Lyndon Flores (75’) got the lone goal for Bandits. And at the Marshalleck Stadium, it was the visitors again victorious, as Port Layola FC also prevailed, 3-1, over Police United FC. Shaking the net with what seems the quickest goal of the season was Latrell Middleton (1’) along with Jarret Davis (7’) and Shawn Young (32’) for Port Layola; while Police avoided the shutout with a goal from Ricardo “Cheety” Jimenez (56’).

The only Sunday game was in the afternoon at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, where it was once again the visitors coming away with the win, as league leading Verdes FC crushed Wagiya SC, 5-nil, with goals from Alence Ayala (21’), Matias Veron (30’ & 89’), Darrell Myvett (34’) and Jordy Polanco (59’).

In this weekend’s Week 4 matchups, the top 4 leading teams mix it up, as #1 Verdes FC comes to town to face #3 Port Layola FC; while #4 Altitude FC awaits a visit in Mango Creek from #2 Benque United FC.
