BROOKLYN, New York, Mon. Sept. 26, 2022

Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño left the country on September 21st to attend the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. While in that state, he, along with a delegation of government officials including Minister of Tourism Hon. Anthony Mahler and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Eamon Courtenay, also met with members of the Belizean diaspora.

The meeting with the diaspora, which took place at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Brooklyn, was a part of the 41st Independence Day celebrations. It was preceded by an Independence Ecumenical Service at St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church.

“We may not be a lot, but all of us have this talent, and it continues to amaze me, wherever we go when we see the talent that Belizeans have all over the world,” said Hon. John Briceño during the meeting.

The Prime Minister spoke of his administration’s hopes for the economy and education in Belize. He also spoke of wanting to establish a greater connection between Belize and its diaspora.

Hon. Briceño also met with members of the diaspora while in Washington D.C. There, he reportedly expressed his gratitude to Belizeans living abroad for their consistent contributions to the country.

During that trip, the Prime Minister and his delegation met with representatives of the Organization of American States as well as U.S. Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken.
