GeneralPolice investigating 3 Belize City shootings

BELIZE CITY, Sun. Apr. 11, 2021– The long weekend for the Police Department began on Friday, April 9, 2021, when they responded to a shooting incident on Boots Crescent. At the scene of the crime, they found Jasmine Sanchez, 21, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Reports say that Sanchez was in a yard alongside her acquaintances, when unknown assailants approached the yard and fired numerous shots in their general direction. Sanchez, who was wounded during the shooting, was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where she was treated. She is now in a stable condition and has since been released from the KHMH.

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, the police responded to another shooting incident in Belize City. This incident transpired around 9:05 p.m. on the Central American Boulevard.

According to Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero, during that shooting, Vanny Thomas had received gunshot injuries to the body. He was taken to the KHMH, where he is presently listed in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment, said Romero.

Police investigations have brought no conclusive answers regarding the identity of the gunman, but what they have so far found out is that Thomas was riding a bicycle when a male person approached him firing shots, which wounded him.

No later than 30 minutes after the Thomas shooting incident, an on-duty police officer responded to a shooting incident on Logwood Street. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found a 19-year old, Denvoy Bradley, with gunshot wounds to the body, and a hostile Ian Jenkins, whom the officer shot on his finger while trying to apprehend him.

“Investigations reveal that Denvoy Bradley was in the area when he was approached by a male person who fired shots at him. The police responded quickly, which led to the detention of Ian Jenkins, and a firearm was found with him. The police officer who responded reported that he came under threat from the person who had the firearm and he fired a shot which caught the person on the finger. Bradley remains at the KHMH in a critical condition and Jenkins was released from the KHMH,” stated Senior Superintendent Romero.

Romero claims that both Bradley and Jenkins are known to the police. However, the police are still trying to find out the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
