The National Sports Council Youth Football Summer Tournament climaxed early this week with semifinal games on Monday, August 18, and the championship finals in both U-13 and U-15 categories on Tuesday, August 19, at the Third World football field near St. Martin’s parish in Lake Independence.
In the semifinals on Monday, formerly undefeated U-13 Ladyville Jaguars ended their championship hopes when they fell 1-0 to Third World, who got the winning goal from Raheem Hendy. And U-13 Raiders convincingly defeated Back-A-Town, 3-0, on goals from Ivory Copious, Brian Williams and Brian White. U-15 Caesar Ridge remained undefeated when they blanked Third World, 3-0, with a goal from Victor Franklin and two from leading scorer Michael Augustine. And U-15 Yabra turned back Back-A-Town, 2-1, on goals by John Valerio and Tyrone Guy. Back-A-Town’s goal was by Ledwin Dixon.
The U-13 final on Tuesday was decided by a penalty kick, as Ivory Copious converted to lead Raiders to the 1-nil victory over Third World to claim the U-13 championship. The U-15 finals between Yabra and Caesar Ridge ended 0-0 in regulation, but Yabra proved more proficient in the ensuing penalties, with Troy Bodden, Brian Williams and John Valerio converting for the 3-0 victory and the U-15 championship.
