Robbing, raping and stabbing

GeneralRobbing, raping and stabbing
Police are searching for two men who broke into a woman’s home in the Mesopotamia division of the city on Monday, June 11. They robbed her, stabbed her repeatedly and then raped her while her five children and mother were made to sit in the hall, guarded by one of the men, unable to come to her rescue.

Up to press time tonight, no one has been detained.

This is actually the third attack on the woman. She had been shot in March, as she stood in her yard hanging out clothes, and about a month later a man attacked her with a hammer and robbed her.

The victim requested police guard while she was hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), but said that police told her there were not enough policemen in the department to have one assigned to her.

Amandala today tried to speak with the victim again, this time at her home, but was told that she had been discharged yesterday and had been taken into police custody for her protection. She seems to be doing much better medically, though, said the neighbour.

On Tuesday following the incident, we had spoken with Maria, who said that her horrific ordeal began sometime around 2:00 on Monday morning. She was asleep in her bed when she heard a man’s voice in the hall, saying to her mother, “Don’t move.”

She sat up on her bed and before she knew it, the man was in her bedroom. He told her to take off all her jewelry and hand over her money. She had on a pair of earrings and an “esclava,” which the man helped her to take off.

The man then again demanded money, and when she told him that it was in a purse in the next room, she saw the shadow of another man going past her room door into the other room, and then heard what sounded like things from her purse being thrown to the floor. They took everything valuable from her purse, including cash and three other pairs of earrings.

She thought that the theft would have been the end of the ordeal, that the men had only gone there to rob her, but to her surprise the man who had gone into the other room for her purse, joined the man in her room and they tied her hands with a rag they had brought. Then they tied her mouth with another one.

“They told me to lie down on the bed, but before I could do so, I began feeling like something in my back, “ said the victim. That was when she realized that one of the men was stabbing her in her back.

She then complied and lay down on the bed. One of the men jumped on top of her and began to rape her for what seemed an eternity.

The rag tied over her mouth prevented her from screaming, but you could still hear some muttering sounds from the victim, we were told by the victim’s mother. She could not say for sure, but figured, because of the sounds, that the men were raping her daughter. She was afraid and could not make any call for help because the man had already cut the phone lines and taken their cell phones. She then did all she thought she could – she prayed to God.

The victim said that when the man finished, they did something even more horrific and painful, as if though they did not intend for her to walk. The men began stabbing her in her two legs, just above the knees, the right leg first.

Her attackers were a brown-skinned man and a dark-skinned man, and the brown-skinned man took an iron from off her ironing board that was at her bed-foot and used it to beat on the handle of the knife to ensure that it went in as deeply as possible. Both men also stabbed her in her knees.

When the men had gotten enough, they left her on the bed and walked through the door. The mother then got up and went into the room to check on her daughter. The attack had seemed an eternity, but it only lasted half an hour.

The victim finished by saying, “I think it is personal, and I really don’t want to go into details because I don’t have sufficient evidence or anything, because three months ago on March 5, I was attacked also, and I was shot in both legs, and that happened right in the back of my yard. And when I was just completing two months on the first of March, after being shot, I was lashed in my head with a hammer, and I do believe that all these incidents are related, and the same person is paying these guys to hurt me. This is the third phone they have taken from me.”

The victim is unable to walk right now. She said that her children are very traumatized after the ordeal, and they fear for her life.

Police have not yet been able to make an arrest for the first two incidents involving the victim.
