GeneralRoy Vansen, 55, dies in road accident

CAMALOTE, Cayo District, Fri. May 29, 2020– Roy Vansen, 55, a Camalote resident who had always been seen in Belmopan near the Belmopan Bus Terminal and in the surrounding area doing small jobs for a little money to earn his living, was knocked down and killed while he was walking home at about 11:30 last night on the George Price Highway in Camalote by a police vehicle that was responding to a report from Camalote.

The accident occurred between Miles 49 and 50. Vansen died immediately due to massive head and body injuries.

ACP Joseph Myvett of the Police Department said that while the police mobile was responding to a report from Camalote, a man came onto the highway suddenly from a side road, and the officer who was driving the vehicle tried to avoid hitting the man, but he was unable to do so.

After the accident, the police vehicle stopped and the officers inside rendered assistance. An ambulance was called, but on its arrival Roy Vansen had already died.

ACP Myvett said that the police officer driving the vehicle was arrested and he submitted a blood sample and urine sample for testing and analysis to determine whether alcohol was in his blood, and if it was above the legal level.

Police said that Vansen was socializing in the area not far from his house, and was walking home on the highway when he was hit.
