SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Mon. Oct. 7, 2024

The St. Catherine Academy volleyball girls and St. John’s College Wildcats both won Bronze medals at the XXI CODICADER (Commission of Central American Integration for Sports and Recreation) Under-17 Scholastic Games at the INDES gymnasium in San Salvador on Monday morning, October 7.

The SCA girls won, 23-25, 25-17, 27-25 and 25-23, to win the Bronze medal over El Salvador’s Colegio Sagrado Corazon on Monday morning. They had been relegated to the 3rd place match by their 2-3 loss to Nicaragua’s Colegio Nuestro Señora del Rosario, who won 22-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 15-12.

The SCA girls had qualified to the semifinals as 2nd in their group with 2 wins, after a hard-fought duel that went the full 5 sets to win: 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 17-15, over Соѕtа Rіса’ѕ Lісео Аtеnаs last Friday, after their debut loss: 23-25, 22-24, 21-25, to Guаtеmаlа’ѕ Соlеgіо dе Ѕеñоrіtаѕ Ѕаgrаdо Соrаzón on Thursday. On Saturday, the SCA girls enjoyed their 2nd victory: 26-24, 23-25, 25-13, 24-17, over Honduras’ International School of Tegucigalpa.

The SJC Wildcats also won the Bronze medal match, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14, over Honduras’ La Estacia School on Monday evening.

In Sunday’s semifinals, the Wildcats lost 2-3 to Panama’s Agustiniano Chitre College, who prevailed: 31-29, 27-29, 26-28, 25-17 and 15-10, to qualify to final, while the SJC Wildcats were relegated to the bronze medal match for 3rd place.

The SJC boys had qualified to the semifinals as 2nd in their group by their 3-1 win over Nicaragua’s Colegio Esquipula (25-18, 19-25, 25-22 and 26-17) on Saturday, after they debuted with a 3-1 win over Guatemala last Thursday, before they fell, 1-3, to Costa Rica’s Liceo Atenas on Friday.

Costa Rica won the gold medal match: 25-22, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-20 over Panama.
