COROZAL TOWN–A woman has been detained by police, pending charges of theft, after she was captured on camera stealing the purse of Sabrina Martinez, 33, a domestic of San Narciso, Corozal District, while they were socializing at a bar in Corozal Town.

The incident occurred at about 7:00 Tuesday evening, December 30, at a bar on 5th Avenue in Corozal Town.

Martinez told police that she, the friend and her nephew were socializing at Perfect Restaurant when she left her purse with the friend for safekeeping while she became engaged in a conversation with another acquaintance of hers.

Martinez reported that she ordered drinks from the bar and when she went for her purse from the friend to pay for the drinks, the friend and her purse were nowhere to be found.

She began a search in the restaurant for her purse and found it on a table near the bathroom, but all she had in the purse had been stolen, including $80.

The owner of the restaurant immediately began to review the security camera tapes in the restaurant, and the thief, the so-called friend of Martinez, was seen taking away the purse, stealing its contents and leaving the restaurant.

Police later found the woman and arrested her on a charge of theft.

Amandala was informed, however, that Martinez will not press charges against her purported friend, and that they had come to some agreement.
