SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Thurs. Oct. 3, 2024

The St. John’s College boys, the 2023 National Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) volleyball champions, won, 3-1, over Guatemala in their first match at the XXI CODICADER (Commission of Central American Integration for Sports and Recreation) Under-17 Scholastic Games at the INDES volleyball gymnasium in San Salvador on Thursday morning, October 3.

The female NSSSA champions, the St. Catherine Academy girls, did not do so well in their debut match, losing, 3-0, to Guatemala.

The NSSSA football champions, the Belmopan Comprehensive girls, debuted with a 1-5 loss to Costa Rica at the INDES football pitch.

The NSSSA male football champions, the Muffles College Bobcats, lost, 4-1, to Costa Rica at the INDES football field.

The NSSSA is taking a 167-member contingent to the Games, and the NSSSA basketball female champions – the King’s College Lions and the male champions – Gwen Lizarraga High School boys depart for El Salvador on Friday evening, October 4.

Belize will also participate in athletics, and the contingent will include 15 female athletes and 15 male athletes.

The Games began with a fantastic show of color, light, music and dance in the spectacular opening ceremonies last night, and the games will run until Saturday, October 12.
