Yasmani Aguirre tried to defend his sister, but was stabbed in the abdomen with a machete

BELIZE CITY, Sat. Aug. 25, 2012

A high school student, Yasmani Aguirre, 16, a student of Belmopan Comprehensive High School, was stabbed to death with a machete by his neighbor during an altercation around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24, in his neighbor’s yard in the San Martin area of Belmopan.

Witnesses said that Yasmani went into his neighbor’s house to defend his sister, who had been slapped by the neighbor, but instead was killed with a machete.

They told police that Aguirre and his neighbor had gotten into a fight and were parted, but when his sister came home and learned that her neighbor had been fighting with her brother, she went over to the neighbor’s home to find out why they had been fighting. The neighbor came out into the yard with a machete and slapped her with it across the face, and was about to chop her when her brother, Yasmani, intervened.

Yasmani, who got angry, stoned his neighbor with rocks, which missed. Yasmani then went into the neighbour’s yard to help his sister, and it was then that the neighbor stabbed him with the machete.

Witnesses said that after Yasmani was stabbed, someone shouted “Yasmani needs help”, and three men went into the neighbor’s yard and took him out of the yard.

However, when they were taking Yasmani out of the yard, there was a little bridge that they had to cross, and he fell into the water. They hurriedly lifted him out the water and put him in the taxi, but shortly after, he took two big breaths, and the second one was the last breath he took.
