Hill was allegedly caught inside the house and restrained until police arrived
Sydney Hill, 32, a welder of #35 Vernon Street, was charged with burglary, damage to property and harm when he appeared in court this evening.
According to police, Anselm Gillett, a resident of Bryant Estate on the Hattieville/Boom Road, reported that he arrived at his home and realized that between 7:30 p.m. on December 10, 2013 and 6:30 p.m. on December 13, his home had been burgled.
Realizing that the culprit would return, he waited for him inside the house and at 11:00 that night, the burglar returned to the house and tried to enter through a window that had been previously damaged. Gillett was able to restrain the burglar until the police arrived and arrested him.
After making checks of the house, Gillett saw that nothing had been stolen, but some sheets of sheetrock, as well as a double glass window, had been damaged, with the damages totaling $850 in value.
In the same court where Hill was charged with burglary and damage to property for entering Gillett’s home, he was also charged with harm upon his ex-common-law wife, Consuelo Staine, for an incident which occurred on December 8, 2013.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was offered and met bail of $6,000 and one surety of the same amount, and is to appear back in court on February 12, 2014.
