BELIZE CITY, Sun. Sept. 1, 2019– The Belize Elementary School auditorium was the stage for the 2019 Brodies Strong & Weak Doubles Tournament this Saturday, August 31.
The competition started with 13 doubles pairs competing in a Double Elimination format, in which each pair was comprised of a “strong & weak” player. The top 20 ranked players were not allowed to make a pair, and therefore had to select a player from the 21 ranking position and below, making for a very evenly matched competition.
Mihir Karnani & Parin Thadani made it to the final-4 position undefeated, and were joined by Jofny Paguaga & Julian Aldana, who also made it to the finals.
Yasser Musa & Jaylen Nicholson also made it to the final-4 along with Taye Parkinson & Joseph Lambey.
With the final-4 doubles partners now in the final round, Karnani & Thadani defeated Paguaga & Aldana to take the Championship spot. They remained undefeated in the tournament.
Musa & Nicholson secured 3rd place, while Parkinson & Lambey settled for 4th place.
The final results were: 1st – Mihir Karnani & Parin Thadani; 2nd – Jofny Paguaga & Julian Aldana; 3rd – Yasser Musa & Jaylen Nicholson; 4th – Taye Parkinson & Joseph Lambey.
We thank our sponsor, James Brodie & Company Ltd., for having continued to remain main sponsors of this event. A big THANK YOU also goes out to the players, parents, organizers and spectators, for making this event possible.
Trophies were awarded to all the top 4 doubles partners, along with monetary gift cards from the sponsor, Brodies.
