Teen charged for Micah Baltazar’s murder

GeneralTeen charged for Micah Baltazar’s murder

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Dec. 18, 2020– Police have arrested and charged a teen for the December 14 murder of Micah Baltazar, 19, of a Holy Emmanuel Street address.

Cassian Billary, 18, of Warrie Street, Belize City, was charged on Thursday, December 17, for the murder.

At around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 14, Baltazar was on Neal’s Pen Road after having left his uncle’s residence on Kraal Road when an unknown gunman fired several shots at him, that fatally wounded him in the body.

Baltazar died at the scene.

Investigators believe that Baltazar may have been targeted because he was from “turf” that is considered enemy territory by certain groups that live in the area where he was killed.

Today, Friday, Billary was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford for murder, but he couldn’t be offered bail and no plea was taken from him, because the charge is an indictable offence to be tried only in the Supreme Court.

He was subsequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
