Five games were played on Sunday in the 2010 Interoffice Basketball Championship. In game one, Port of Belize won their fifth game of the season with a 52-29 thumping of Youth for the Future. The veteran Wilfred “Chiqiblue” Nicholas, after all these years still has game, as he totaled 10 pts 2 rebs in the win, while his teammate Ian “AC” Augustine chipped in with 8 pts 9 rebs. Meanwhile for Youth for the Future, it was Lonnie Trapp leading the way with 9 pts, followed by Dwayne Davis with 8 pts 14 rebs.  In game two, Telemedia’s Digicell had their way with Belize Healthcare Partners/Central Cable, winning by the final score of 74-49, behind Jamaal Kelly 22 pts 6 rebs 3 asst and Devon Lozano 16 pts 2 rebs. BHPL/Central Cable, who are yet to win a game this season, was led by Trevor Meighan 15 pts 15 rebs and Samuel Neal 15 pts 3 rebs. Atlantic Bank won their fifth game in seven outings, as they dropped BWSL by the final score of 49-40. Andrew “Head” Staine totaled 14 pts 3 rebs in the win, followed by Ian “Penny” Ferrera 12 pts 1 reb. Meanwhile, for BWSL it was Lawrence Young totaling 14 pts 4 rebs, followed by Karim Thompson with 8 pts 10 rebs. In the fourth game of the day, FCIB/Quan’s remained undefeated at (6-0), as they destroyed the hapless BEL team by the final score of 95-39. Jacob “Snake” Leslie continued his tear on the league, as he totaled 32 pts 5 rebs 7 asst in the win. He was ably aided by the complementary play of Jaheed Smith 14 pts 15 rebs. In the final game of the day, the Roe Group cemented their bid for the post-season, as they won in convincing fashion over National Fire Service by the final score of 58-31. Mark Swift had 13 pts in the win, and was followed by Dave Apolonio’s 12 pts 4 rebs. For the firemen it was Tyrone Bood totaling 9 pts 3 rebs and Phillip Arthurs totaling 8 pts 4 rebs.
  
This past Monday, three more games were played, and in the upset of the night it was Telemedia’s Digicell sending Tuff E Nuff wheeling to their first loss of the season by the final score of 76-66. Jamaal Kelly was once again the top scorer, totaling 22 pts 3 rebs, followed by Edward Thompson 17 pts 13 rebs. Tuff E Nuff, who was not anticipating the loss, was led by Ashton Edwards 35 pts 4 rebs and Eugene Jex 15 pts 9 rebs. In game two of the night, Belize City Council kept their strangle hold on division A, winning their sixth game of the season, this time over Customs by the final score of 76-63. Joshua Jones had 20 pts 3 rebs in the win, while Kenroy “MVP” Usher contributed 16 pts 1 reb. Customs, who obviously have fallen on hard times, were led by Oliver Solis 27 pts and Ludrick Beeks 18 pts. In game three, KHMH edged the Police by the score of 62-55. Rodney O’Brien had 14 pts 5 rebs in the win, followed by Norman Humes with 14 pts 4 rebs. Meanwhile for the Police, Maurice Martinez 20 pts and Chester Noralez 10 pts were just not good enough to prevent the Police from dropping their fourth game of the season.
 
 
E3 REBIRTH AND FLAMES WIN U-18 AND U-21 CHAMPIONSHIP, WHILE E3/BELIZE BANK STARS TIE SENIOR SERIES
 
E3/Belize Bank Stars tied up their best of three championship series with BNE Oilers, as they won game two by the score of 63-50. Kurt “Chengo” Burgess led the Stars with 20 pts, followed by Mark O’Brien 14 pts. For the Oilers it was Dorian Jones with 14 pts and Christian Rodriguez with 12 pts. The third and decisive game is scheduled to be played tomorrow night in San Ignacio Town. Meanwhile in the U-18 and U-21 divisions, E3 Rebirth and Flames both recorded sweeps in their respective best-of-three series, with the latter winning by the score of 44-40 over Ballstars. Elvis Usher threw up 14 pts to lead E3 Rebirth attack, while for Ballstars it was Julian Guzman totaling 22 pts. In U-21 play, it was Elvis Usher totaling 17 pts for Flames in the win, and Don Williams 11 pts for Belmopan Trojans in the loss. The Over-35 division is also still undecided and knotted up at one game apiece, as Buca Belmopan was able to bounce back and tie their series against UNDP Panthers. Fred Mortar had 16 pts in the win, while Eldon Gillett and Joe Clark had 9 pts each in the loss. The third and final game of this series will be played tomorrow night as a prelude to the big senior match-up.
 
 
INSIDE GRIGA 2010 SUMMER BOUNCE
 
The semifinal round for the 2010 Griga Summer Bounce championship got underway last night at Y-Not-Island with Ghans Avenue going up against New Site in U-19 play, and Valley X-Press visiting the #2 seeded Black Mambaz in senior play. Tomorrow night, the action continues with #1 seeded Hopkins hosting #4 seeded Harlem in U-19 action, while the defending senior champs Belize Bank Benguche will host the #4 seeded Wamada Trip.
