Texmar, Lucky Strike and Cayo South post wins in Week 7 of Super League Tournament

SportsTexmar, Lucky Strike and Cayo South post wins in Week 7 of Super League Tournament
There were two draw games in the five games played over the weekend in Week 7 of the Belize Bank Super League 2008-09 Tournament, with Texmar Boys, Lucky Strike Black Orchid and Cayo South United all gaining victories.

On Saturday night, October 11, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence, home-standing and league-leading Texmar Boys had to come from behind, following a 16th minute strike by Tsunami F.C.’s Rupert Smith that gave the visitors the lead for much of the first half. But before the halftime whistle sounded, Texmar’s equalizer came from Norman “Tilliman” Pipersburg at the 44th minute. The defending champs then settled down to business in the second half, getting three more goals, from Wilmer Garcia at the 54th, and Arnold Torres at the 83rd and 89th minute for the final 4-1 Texmar victory.

Meanwhile, at the Ricalde Stadium in Corozal, home-standing Barrio Fino Corozal was held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Kraal Road F.C. from Belize City.

In the third Saturday night encounter, this one at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, home team Lake-Collet Survivors could not survive the bombardment from Cayo South’s Enrique Tamai, who struck four times on the way to his team’s 5-2 victory over Lake-Collet. Ralph Spain put Lake-Collet in front at the 8th minute, but Enrique Tamai equalized and then put Cayo South in front at the 15th and 17th minute, respectively. Paul Bradley then tied it up for Lake-Collet at the 26th minute, but Tamai would have none of that, and proceeded to shake the net again at the 35th and 55th minute, for the 4-2 lead. Wayne Wiltshire closed the show for Cayo South with his goal at the 68th minute for the 5-2 final score.

On Sunday afternoon, October 12, out at the village of Lucky Strike, it was the home team Lucky Strike Black Orchid posting their second victory of the season, a 2-1 win over visiting Western Rebels F.C. Jermaine “Bowfoot” Zuniga opened the scoring for Lucky Strike at the 7th minute; Alden Coleman equalized for the visitors at the 29th; and Delwin Jones got the game winner for the home team at the 70th minute.

The People’s Stadium in Orange Walk was the venue for the other Sunday afternoon match, where home standing San Felipe Barcelona could only manage a 1-1 tie against visiting Valley Renaissance from Dangriga. It was scoreless for most of the game, until Alexander Peters put Valley in front at the 85th minute, and Harvey Cruz equalized from the penalty spot for San Felipe at the 89th minute.
