Currently serving in just his first term, Vance had never run for public office and had no previous government experience before running for U.S. Senate in 2022.

Here’s a bit of what we do know:

Vance is a protégé of tech billionaire Peter Thiel, who bankrolled a massive super PAC in support of Vance’s campaign for U.S. Senate called “Protect Ohio Values PAC.” He was also backed by the family of far-right hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer.

As recently as 2016, Vance was a vocal proponent of the “Never Trump” movement, writing that his policy proposals “range from immoral to absurd.”

But by 2022, Vance had embraced the MAGA brand to become one of the most servile Trump acolytes in the country. At one campaign event, Trump mocked Vance’s obsequiousness to his face, telling a crowd, “J.D. is kissing my ass he wants my support so bad.”

Now, this relative political newcomer is on the verge of becoming a heartbeat away from the presidency. Voters need to know who is the real J.D. Vance—and we’re digging to find out.
