Dear Editor,
I am herein submitting a poem, “The Value of Education,” written by my son, Micheal S. Vernon. He graduated from high school in Punta Gorda. Then he went to 6th Form in Belize City. He then applied to CET (Toledo), and he was transferred to ITVET (Toledo). He is now Interim Manager at the institution, ITVET Toledo.
Very Sincerely,

The Value of Education
by Michael Sidney Vernon
I cannot believe it;
It seems so unreal, like a dream;
But four years have gone like a fast-flowing stream;
It seems as if it was only yesterday that I began
Climbing over hills of quizzes and mountains of exams
Many a times,
I sit pondering with contemplations,
Why my parents are pushing me to pursue a sound education.
There are not few, but many times that education is openly scoffed at and despised.
But Ohhh…only when it is too late that the opposers realize,
That today
They are faced with a drastic situation,
The mass difficulties one encounters in obtaining a worthy job
Without an education.
Education will not ask, “Where you have been?”
Now will it question the color of your skin.
Education does not discriminate.
It does not select.
We must go forward studying and learning with dignity.
Let us not lose this golden opportunity,
For a sound education
Determines a man’s worthwhile achievements.
