The undefeated San Pedro Tiger Sharks continue to lead the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) as they enjoyed their 8th win, 76-61, over the Punta Gorda Panthers at the Belize City Civic Center last Thursday night; while the Belize City Thunderbolts got some payback, 87-81, over the Cayo Western Ballers for their 5th win, after 4 losses, at the Sacred Heart College auditorium on Saturday night, July 12.

Thunderbolts – Western Ballers

Matthew Young top-scored for the Thunderbolts with 22 pts, 9 boards, while Victor Evans struck from outside the arc for 15 pts, 5 boards. Charles Garcia put up 13 pts in heavy traffic, Eyan Rene and Clency Lopez followed suit outside the circle for 11 pts each, and Tyrone Hill shot 9 pts. Luis Sosa, Jr. put up 6 pts.

For the Western Ballers, Jaheim Ciego and Dennis Flowers III struck from outside the circle for 20 pts each, Arik Nicholas dunked 18 pts to take over the lead, 45-42, at the half and remain in contention, 65-67, at the end of the 3rd quarter. Kyron “Tut” Molina and Aaron Allison netted 6 pts apiece, Jamie Carbajal shot 5 pts, and Kervin Palacio and Darnell Oden tossed in 3 pts each. New recruit D’von Campbell came up empty in 30 minutes on the court.

Tiger Sharks – PG Panthers

Player of the Game, Francis Arana shot 25 pts, snagged 6 boards, handed out 5 assists and stole the ball thrice, as he led the Tiger Sharks to a 76-61 win over the PG Panthers. Jihad Wright posted 17 pts 13 boards, Devin Daly put up 14pts 8 boards, and Keon Rowland and Keith Pollard Jr. shot 6 pts each. Tyrell Griffith netted 4 pts, and Andrew Vasquez and Earl “Bolo” Johnson threw in a bucket apiece.

Marquise Cunningham led the visitors, PG Panthers, with 18 pts, 16 boards; Kyle Steward put up 17 pts; and Jaden Sutherland scored 8 pts to take over the lead, 49-46, at the end of the 3rd quarter. Dane Bradley shot 7 pts, Chance Leslie netted 4 pts, and Lindsay Young added 3 pts. Kevin Hamilton and Kelvin Cumberbatch each threw in a bucket.

Dream Ballers – PG Panthers

The Panthers fared no better in their 7th loss, as the EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers came from behind for their 6th win, 73-61, at the Russell Chiste Garcia auditorium in Dangriga on Saturday night. Deshawn Brackett struck twice from outside the arc for 20 pts, Daniel Conorquie and Kirk Smith, Jr. followed suit for 14 pts each, and Edgar Wade netted 7 pts. Euan Wade shot 6 pts; and Quinton Bowen, Antonio Flowers, and Kevon Laurie scored 4 pts apiece for the Dream Ballers.

Cunningham and Leslie led the Panthers with 14 pts each, and Kyle Steward posted 12 pts to lead 19-12 in the 1st quarter and 43-25 at the half. Kevin Hamilton shot 10 pts, Sutherland scored 5 pts, and Cumberbatch added 4 pts to lead 48-44 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Julian Young threw in a bucket.
