BELIZE CITY, Sun. Nov. 28, 2021 — On Saturday, November 27, police officers went to Pitter Street, where a shooting incident had reportedly occurred. When they reached the scene, they were informed that 33-year-old Reuben Cano had been shot and transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

The police later visited the hospital, where they found Cano, a Belize City chef, with gunshot wounds to the body. He later died from complications resulting from the gunshot wounds he received.

According to information that police have gathered, Cano was at home with his common-law wife when a man outside the house called his name and asked him to go outside. As soon as Cano exited his home, shots were fired at him, and he fell into a drain, where he was later found suffering from gunshot injuries. It is believed that the unidentified gunmen came from the direction of Lord Ridge Cemetery, and after they had shot Cano, they fled in the same direction.

The Police Department has not yet determined the motive for the shooting, since Cano had no known gang affiliations. They are currently searching for the person who called him out of his house on the day of the shooting and have identified one suspect who is believed to have perpetrated the crime.

Police are also requesting the public’s assistance in their investigation of this latest murder. Anyone with credible information relating to Cano’s death is asked to report it anonymously by dialing 922, or by using the P3 tips app found at www.P3tips.com.
