SportsTragedy for footballers – Verdes’ Windell Trapp shot dead, Police United’s Danny Jimenez seriously injured

BELIZE CITY, Mon. July 20, 2020– Just getting back into the groove of football games following the recent lifting of the State of Emergency, the football community was rocked on Sunday morning with the tragic news of a drive-by shooting in San Ignacio that resulted in one footballer dead and another seriously injured. Five individuals were reportedly shot as they exited a club in San Ignacio early Sunday morning. Among them were two footballers who had just participated in a game on Saturday night in Benque Viejo; Windell Trapp of Verdes FC lost his life, and national team player Daniel “Danny” Jimenez of Police United FC was seriously injured and is reportedly fighting for his life. Another individual, Samuel Hill, was also reportedly killed in the incident.

Our sports desk joins the football family in sending our sincere condolences to the Trapp family and the Verdes FC members, and our prayers and best wishes for a successful and speedy recovery to Danny. Our condolences also to the family of Samuel Hill, and best wishes for a full recovery to the other injured individuals.
