Two Conquerors win by 3-2 score in 1st leg of National Bank of Belize Amateur Interdistrict semifinals

SportsTwo Conquerors win by 3-2 score in 1st leg of National Bank of Belize Amateur Interdistrict semifinals

BELIZE CITY, Mon. July 25, 2022

The two road teams, both Conquerors by name, won by identical 3-2 scores over the weekend in their semifinal 1st leg of the National Bank of Belize Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NBBAIC) 2022.

Starting with 20 First Division amateur clubs from the 10 different country regions a month ago, the home-and-away Round One was followed by a Round of 16 knockout, where the 10 first round winners were joined by the 6 best losers.  Next was the knockout quarterfinals.  And now, the semifinals have been extended to home-and-away series, with leg 1 being played this past weekend.

Below are the semifinal leg 1 game results on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24.

On Saturday night at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, San Pedro’s Conquerors FC came away with the 3-2 road win over the capital city’s Atletico FC. Wilfredo Galvez (16’) put Atletico on the scoreboard first, but Jose Aquino (36’) equalized ten minutes later for Conquerors, who took a 2-1 lead before the half on an injury time goal by Roberto Nah (45+’).  Julian Maldonado (51’) tied it up shortly after the resumption, but another late goal from Roberto Nah (83’) was enough to give San Pedro’s Conquerors FC the 3-2 road victory.

Then on Sunday afternoon at the Louisiana Football Field in Orange Walk, first half ended a little differently, but the ball game ended with the same score, 3-2, as again it was the road team, this time Griga Conquerors FC with the victory over home team Progresso FC. Clint Logan (37’) gave Griga Conquerors the 1-nil lead and it held through the intermission. In second half, Zamir Bonilla (55’ & 70’) struck twice for Progresso, but so did Jose Valdez (79’ & 88’) for Griga Conquerors, who rode out of Orange Walk with the 3-2 win.

Both decisive 2nd legs of the NBBAIC semifinals are scheduled for the same day this weekend.

Saturday, July 31, NBBAIC Semifinals Leg 2
