An American man who was wanted in the US on 11 charges of possession of child pornography was captured in southern Belize over the weekend.
The fugitive, 67-year-old Dr. Gregory Roth of San Antonio, Texas, was found in Placencia Village, Stann Creek District on Friday, March 23.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) led the arrest efforts in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service Office of International Operations, the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, and the Belize Police Department.
Roth had previously held high-ranking positions in healthcare, serving as the Regional Medical Director for Envision Healthcare, and was affiliated with other hospitals and clinics in San Antonio, Texas. He was a part-time physician at Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, and was Regional Health Authority and Medical Director for La Salle County.
Initially, he was arrested in November 2022 and charged in 2023; however, he didn’t appear for his sentencing in December 2024, prompting a bench warrant for his arrest.
In January of this year, the Texas Attorney General’s Office (TXAGO) conducted searches for Roth in San Antonio, but discovered that he had fled the country in a rented motorhome, and was believed to be traveling south of the border to Mexico, Belize, or Guatemala.
Eventually, he was found in Placencia and detained without any incidents, pending extradition to Bexar County to face the consequences for his crimes.
“We worked with our US counterparts, as we do with other countries, to help them secure persons who may be hiding in Belize or wanted by the different police organizations across the world,” said Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police.
